Prescription Digital Therapeutics (PDTs) are evidence-based, clinically validated software applications prescribed by physicians to treat medical conditions (such as substance use disorder, insomnia, or type 2 diabetes). Unlike wellness apps downloaded freely from consumer app stores, PDTs require verified medical prescriptions for activation.
SaMDApp integrates with national e-prescribing networks. When a doctor issues a prescription in Epic or Cerner, the patient receives an encrypted activation link. SaMDApp validates the prescription token against the pharmacy registry, unlocks the therapeutic modules for the prescribed duration, and streams adherence telemetry back to the care team.
